A Too Good To Go style food rescue app for Uzbekistan. We got around 30 businesses on board, then gave up a bit too early.

What it is

Shops end the day with food they can’t sell. Saqla lets them list it at a discount, and lets people nearby buy it instead of it going to waste.

What we built

  • A backend with role-based access for shops, customers and admins.
  • Payment integration with Payme and Click, two payment providers in Uzbekistan, including fiscalization of receipts.
  • Hosting and deployment on AWS.

What happened

My friend and I started this one after NavbatUz: a Too Good To Go style app for Uzbekistan. This time we got around 30 businesses onto it.

The app launched, but we never built an audience, and it never made money. Looking back, we gave up a bit too early.

What we took from it

This was the product with real payments and real money moving through it, and it’s where we learned most of what we know about shipping software end to end.

The bigger lesson was not about code. A good product with no audience loses to an average product with one. Getting businesses on board was only the start, and we never solved the first 100 users. I still think about that problem most days.
